This section begins with some of the 924 "D" cars. Click the thumbnails to see the full size pictures. Check out the 924 D page for details.

The chassis number codes for the early years is straight forward: 924 is the model. 9 is 1979. Then the  fifth digit is either 1, 2, or 3 for the model version; 1 is Europe/RestOfWorld, 2 is USA, 3 is Japan. 4 appears to be specific to the 1979 Turbos. All followed by the 5 digit serial number.

I have seriously thought about returning it to 924 front end and quarters but Tom Brennan the original driver of the car has told me that speed will be seriously comprimised. The car was on a factory race poster in 1981, one of 4 cars.

She's in a very good condition, exepted the paint of the front spoiler. The main problem of my car is the start when the engine is warm. Want to change the air filter (K&N) to have a little more power. There was also water flooding inside my car ; the problem is yet solved. My car comes from Germany. I bought this car for 15.000Fr, about $2500. A very good deal, isn't it?79Tousaint2.jpg (33191 bytes)

79vscott.jpg (50625 bytes)Your Webmeister. This car was purchased with a blown engine, suspension, clutch, brakes, etc. The body and interior were in good shape, but that's about it. The car was destroyed by a wannabe drag-racer teenage boy. It was equipped with the snailshell 5-speed trans, which was also trashed. Since purchasing it, it's received the engine from my old '77.5 car, with a rebuild, and the interior has been stripped. It also received a transplant of the 5-lug suspension, and the addition of a full cage, fire system and other safety goodies, plus race brakes and suspension. I have been racing the car since April '00. More details and pictures at my homepage: http://www.vaughanscott.com

I haven't gotten the car out of second gear, I envy all of you that can drive yours whenever you like. I WILL eventually get the title straightened out and will post an update when this happens.

So I'm taking a walk 3 years ago and I notice this old Porsche in this guys driveway. This year I ask him what he's gonna do wuth it and he says, "Hell, I don't know...You wanna buy it for $1500.00?". I said no, but , on a lark, I offerred $1400.00 and he said "Okie Dokie". It had almost 170k miles on it and all I had to do was recharge the A/C. It runs perfect! He said it was a Euro model but I don't know a damned thing about it. Can any of you please tell me what I've got? It's a wonderful car and outmaneuvers ny 76 280Z! It's gonna be for my son, Adrian, when he gets legal in 2 years. I want to put rear and front speakers in it but I think the glass has to come out. Any way around that? This car is loads of fun but I would like it to be able to respond a little quicker. Any ideas? This is my first Porsche and I think there's gonna be a few more in my future. It's such a GAS!!! 5 speed and body perfect as well as engine perfect. I would like it to respond better yet, after 3k rpm's, it goes great! Any info would be appreciated! Thanx, Peter Trevino

This car started out one rainy Sunday afternoon in January, I got the Jones for a 924. So,there it was Sunday paper: "PORSCHE '79 924 Good body. Needs work. $650(415)XXX-XXXX" I call the number and I went on a look see. And, the rest is History.

Yep, it needed work! First thing I noticed the fuel pump was not running. There is a 924/944 specialist over in Pinole, so I had it taken over to get an estimate. The head gasket was blown:( With the head off we found a broken exhaust value:( The head was warped:( So with more money into it more than it's worth I have a running car.

I bought this car to Autocross it so, the first thing to go was the suspension. With a call to EASY in Emeryville I came up with an early 944's trailing arm, hubs, spindles, breaks and wheels from 924 Turbo. The car came from the factory with the "sport" sway bar and shock package. Which included Konis (adj. in the rear) and 23mm front and 14mm rear sway bars. While I was swapping the trailing arms I lowered and decambered the rear. Then I put 205/50 X 15 Kuhmo's on it. Break master cyliner and booster have also been taken from a 944, so now it's a M-471.

How it handle? Good, and it is very neutral. But, it has a lot of room for improvement. When I think of how much I have invested into it I am very happy with it

Found alongside road, lonely, neglected, collecting dust and pine needles; faded "For Sale" sign taped to rear window; used by PO's teenage son as high school commute car. Where she collected dings, scrapes, scratches, dents and holes from usual parking lot drivers & maybe the odd off-road use.
BUT NOW, she has been RESCUED, given loving care: body work, new(M3A,Indischrot)paint; fresh bulbs, oils; repaired wires, cleaned interior; new tires; regularly washed & waxed & vacuumed. Engine & (VB)tranny in good shape. Sunroof doesn't leak; new floormats on the way. She purrs...a fun-time beauty.
'Classic' "oops" items are there: (somewhat) cracked dash, wet passenger footwell (battery tray hole) and NG odometer. I'll fix them but they're pretty minor in a 'major' pleasure car.

It has been to from Cheyenne to Philadelphia to Oklahoma City and has never left me stranded. Probably has over 250000 miles on it. Odometer quit in 1988 and I didn't fix it until 1999. It has been a great car, and I will probably never get rid of it.

I bought this car in June of 2000 in Rochester, NY with about 83K Miles on it I've put almost 5K on it since. I have replaced the exhaust and water pump and have added the fog lights and bra. Car came loaded with functioning original options: A/C, Blaupunkt stereo, front sway bay, electric windows and mirrors, sunroof, privacy luggage cover, PORSCHE reflector between the taillights and interior lights package. It has BBS 14" four bolt rims on it, (original rims are in storage.) Garaged in the winter, it's exclusively a Sunday/after work driver. I'll eventually replace the front side indicator bulbs but I try to spend my spare time driving it. Have done one auto-X so far - what a blast! Car also comes in handy at car shows- get front row parking- you don't win... but you don't have to walk, take a shuttle or pay more for parking.

This is car was purchased in 1997 from the original owner who bought it new in Bakersfield, CA. It's Diamond Silver with black leather & has the Getrag tranny, factory AC (not working yet) & radio. I've put about 7K miles on it since buying, it's now about to turn 107K. The car has always run great with a few problems only recently, but I have gotten it running well again. I picked up this gem for a straight trade of a decrepid 1995 Geo Metro project turbo that went bad. The 924 had 95k on the clock, and the interior is great w/only a bad driver's seat and 2 small cracks (one 7mm and the other 19mm) in the dash. the body was equally well maintained, although covered in a cheap red paintjob. Surprisingly, it's pretty much stock, w/much of the extra items such as the removable roof covers and rear cargo tarp in almost-new condition. But the mechanics of the car left much to be desired. New additions are a new alternator, clutch cable, headlight motor assembly, distributor, cap and rotor, fuel distributor, exaust system, radiator, thermostat, water pump, spedometer cable, and rear hatch struts. a new professional paintjob is in order soon when I have the time, allong with the reupolstering of the front seats.

This is my $200 project car. It is a 1979 Sebring 5-speed with the M471 suspension. When purchased, the head gasket was blown and the electrical system dead. Brakes were gone. It cost less than $75 for the new head gasket set and the engine proved to be fairly fresh. Electrical system rebuilt using a new fuse panel to replace corroded one. Brakes were tossed and the four-wheel disc system installed along with 6x15" spider webs. Cooling system fans non operative due to a defunct A/C system which was yanked and tossed. Special Sebring plaid interior removed as it was shot. At present, the car is fully operational and in the process of receiving Koni Gas Sport shocks and new front suspension bushings. Body is Sebring Red and in good condition with 80% original paint, but will require new paint. So far, 935 has been put into the car and it is almost as nice to drive as the 81. Just a nice car to tinker with. I will retain what's left of th plaid interior but will install used black seats and door panels as the plaid is quite faded.

I'm looking for technical advice to some questions. Also, I may be able to share or give advice on some questions I have knowledge of.

Currently, I'm having trouble with a new fuel pump that requires a banjo fitting to attach. My fuel line has a male fitting, size 12mm. I tried to operate the car with out the check valve (my old fuel pump didn't have the check valve attached at the exit end) and the engine will not accelerate past 200 rpm. Do I have the wrong pump for my car ? Is there a banjo adapter that will attach to my
fuel line ? I'm hoping that I have the wrong fuel pump and that there may be a fuel pump with and internal check valve for my car.

Full Porsche 928 braking system and 5- bolt "spider web" wheels. Thicker torsion and sway bars. Car has been modified in small ways, most notable modification being to fuel injection system. Petrol Blue, M471 package, lowered approx. 2", 200# springs in front, Weltmeister sway bars, Koni adjustable shocks, Cool Carbon pads F/R (blue), BFG Comp T/A tires -- 205/50/15 front and 225/50/15 rear, rolled fenders, Autopower Roll cage, K&N filter with otherwise stock motor, stock interior (the radio even works), 5-pt restraints, etc, etc...

This car has been an absolute blast to run in PCA "J" stock over the years and has always placed well in class. First at Pocono, several seconds and thirds at Lime Rock and Summit Point. And, a bunch of also-rans as well. Participated in the Double 50 at Watkins Glen this summer and really enjoyed competing there while placing second in class and 19th overall. In all the miles of track events and racing (over 20K now), this car has never failed to finish an event or a race -- and I DRIVE IT TO THE TRACK -- fully loaded with all kinds of track junk, of course.

I really like this Porsche. Its the fourth I've owned (two 914's and a 72 911 Targa before this...), and it BLOWS AWAY the others in terms of cost, reliability,  fun factor and pure Porsche driving excitement.

(Sport 5-speed, candy red "garnet poly" custom paint with gold metal flake, tan interior, 15" alloy rims, A/C, sunroof).  I'm still in the process of restoring the interior.  The seats need work and the electrical system has been giving me problems of late, but the engine is original and has been well maintained.  Originally, the vehicle came from Lake Tahoe, California, then was purchased by a guy residing in San Diego.  Since November 1990, it makes its home in Vancouver, B.C.

Manufacured: 12/78, Indianarot met. Condition: exterior not too bad - no rust, now on second paint job

teixeir.jpg (32462 bytes) Current news: the car isn't running now, because I'm learning how to tune it.  So far I have changed the timing belt, spark plugs, one fuel injector, two front tires, turn signal switch, rear hatch struts, and rewired the right headlight.  I still need to rebuild the heater control, install a new rear hatch seal, and reseal the rear hatch glass.  When the car was running in December,'98/January,'99, it was a blast!  I can't wait to get it back on the road!In addition to this it had the 14" alloy rims on it - I guess these were not original, since they don't show on the cert., unless they were a dealer upgrade?  I purchased a set of the 15" alloy rims that I think were used on the later turbo models & have been running these lately. This car is my daily driver from about March until November.  I've thought about doing a PCA Driver Education event at Watkins Glen, but was always a little leary about being in a bind for a work car if I broke it! Also, I just installed leather seats from a 944, but I kind of miss those funky herrigbone ones, even though they're torn pretty bad I'm still hanging on to them!

An on going restoration since 1993. I bought the car from an auction in Tampa Bay, Florida, April of 1993 and drove it to upstate N.Y.  The car was in pathetic shape, I barely made it home.  Since then I have been through almost everything on the car and my wallet can testify to this!  I have installed the European pistons, head has been reworked and a phenolic throttle body adapter, my own design, has been installed and Bursch header. The car has been lowered two inches and weltmeister sway bars and racing dynamics strut brace are installed. I have fabricated my own exhaust system.   Someday, I hope I can say that I have finished this project and can just enjoy driving it.

79MaddenSebring.jpg (53690 bytes)'79 Sebring. 100% original except for Raceware head studs, Momo steering wheel, and Sparco Pedals. Still has original tires (soon to change).

Looking for someone with a spare set of Sebring stripes (previous owner buffed out the back one a little too much).

Would love to see pictures of other "original" Sebrings. It seems like most of these cars have had their graphics torn off and altered in some cruel way.

It also seems like it's very hard to find info on these cars. The book Original 924/944/968 makes mention of them, but sadly has no pictures (maybe mine could be in the next edition :-)). I seem to recall reading that some of them came with a special "racing" package with a different suspension and braking system. Anyone know for sure???

My 924 is the Sebring Edition. I bought it from PO for use as a track car at DE's. PO had been running it in J-Stock PCA club racing. He upgraded the suspension to 944 components, LSD, snail trans, runs 15" 5 bolt wheels. Will try to get some pictures up soon.
